Sexologist Dr. Justine Shuey Helps Dispel Common Myths About BDSM (AUDIO)

I was really fortunate to get to speak with sexologist, Dr. Justine Shuey about some common misconceptions about BDSM, where those misconceptions come from, and what we can do about them.

Dr. Shuey regularly speaks in universities across the country about safe BDSM practice, and affirmative consent, and human sexuality.

In this interview, we discuss the lack of training many medical professionals have in regard to sexuality, and how they differentiate between consensual BDSM and abuse. This is a common issue, and many people do not feel comfortable talking to their doctor about their kinky activities. Others have tried, and have been shamed for them, or given incorrect information about the origins of their kinks.

We also discuss the 50 shades phenomenon, and the influx of new kinksters the book and movie created. It's fantastic that the film opened so many people up to new horizons in their sexuality. But there are many people like Dr. Shuey who are concerned about making sure the newbies have information about how to play safely. She discusses terms like SCC and RACK regularly in her university courses.

From her website: "Dr. Justine Shuey is a Board Certified Sexologist and Certified Sexuality Educator with a Doctorate in Human Sexuality and a Masters in Human Sexuality Education.
